Digital Spring Cleaning

Time for spring cleaning!

Spring is almost here! Now is a good time for spring cleaning for your computer and mobile phone.Yes, physical cleaning is important – blowing out the dust and wiping off the keyboard, but don’t forget about cleaning out your data. Are there apps on your phone you can get rid of? Apps that you tried and didn’t like? How about those documents on your computer? Are there drafts or duplicates that can be deleted? Too many bookmarks in your browser? Find out which ones are still relevant and let the others go. Need help tackling this? Contact an expert!

Windows 8.1& You

Windows 8.1

frustrated girlThose words stop us in our tracks. We frown and cross our arms. Windows 8.1 looks weird. There isn’t a Start button. Why can’t we close a program? We just don’t like it and it’s too much work to figure out something so radically different.

Where’s my cell phone?

As a techie type girl I have seen the studies and opinions regarding our relationship with our cell phones. I got my first cell phone in college – the size of your average hardback book and only to be used in the car.

I believe that it’s okay if I am not immediately available.When I am home I don’t always keep my phone at my side; don’t have it set to alert me to new emails or Facebook posts. There are specific ringtones for specific people so I can decide if a call or text is worth interrupting my work.

Does your phone interrupt your relationship?

According to the Pew Internet Study on Couples, The Internet and Social Media (2014-02), young adults are more likely to report tension in their relationships over technology use

  • 42% of cell-owning 18-29 year olds in serious relationships say their partner has been distracted by their mobile phone while they were together (25% of all couples say this).
  • 18% of online 18-29 year olds have argued with a partner about the amount of time one of them spent online (compared with 8% of all online couples).
  • 8% say they have been upset by something their partner was doing online (compared with 4% of all online couples).
